MIM Software Download

The software is available for download in three different packages. Note that you should have Matlab 7.2.0.283 (R2006a) or higher. We hope that many people can benefit from this software. Have fun with it!

This release is still considered beta. If you experience some problems, help us to improve our software by sending us a feedback report (registration required).

Full package

The full package contains a broad set of modules that offer functionality for studying observations by multiple spacecraft and/or the output from various models. The modules can be classified in three main categories:

  • Scientific modules
    • The data analysis module offers various visualization tools.
    • The Lyons module offers a solver for Lyons-type problems.
    • The tangential discontinuity module lets you compute TD models.
    • The flow chemistry module offers an interface for defining and solving a chemical model of the cometary coma. The production rates from the cometary nucleus are supposed to be given. Spherical outflow is assumed. The chemical model is solved by means of an adaptive integrator. The module also allows several forms of ensemble and inverse modeling.
    • The reaction manager allows you to specify the set of chemical reactions that you want to consider. In particular, the Anicich and UMIST databases are included.
    • The particle manager lets you create collections of particles. The module provides a database with most particles relevant for space physics.
    • The plot composer lets you manage the plots created by the data analysis module.
    • The plot design manager lets you specify visualization form layouts, e.g., for specific types of data analysis.
    • The data type manager provides definitions for various physical quantities such as magnetic field, electric field, magnetic moment, current density, etc.
    • The unit manager provides definitions for various physical units with respect to the MKSA system.
  • Data management modules
    • The channel manager allows to transparently and automatically access data on remote archives.
    • The dataset formater takes care of converting data formats to the format needed by MIM.
  • Administration modules
    • The script editor offers an interface for writing scripts of MIM commands.
    • The account manager allows you to create user accounts and define module access rights for these accounts
    • The documentation writer provides a framework for writing MIM documentation.
    • The markup manager lets you define the syntax and semantics of the markup language used by the documentation writer.
    • The software publisher allows you to manage the release history of the software.
    • The time manager offers an interface for project planning.
